Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
